DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY IBADAN HELD 3RD MATRICULATION CEREMONY

The Dominican University, Ibadan, held her 3rd matriculation ceremony on 29th January 2020. In his opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr.(Prof.) Anthony Akinwale, OP. congratulated the matriculating students, their parents, sponsors, and their family and friends for witnessing such a great occasion. He assured the matriculating students that the journey they undertake at the Dominican University will lead them to acquire competency in the humanities, managements, and the sciences. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that formation at the Dominican University is holistic, that is, intellectual, moral and technical. According to the Vice-Chancellor, education at the Dominican University provides great opportunities for empowerment to change Nigeria for good. He challenged the students to tower in integrity and be intellectually enterprising. To achieve excellence, he advised them to attend lectures regularly and punctually keeping in mind that there is no such thing as African time in the University.

The matriculation lecture was delivered by Dr. Nancy Woods. She noted that the matriculation ceremony marks the beginning of a new era for the matriculants. Sharing the joy of her profession as a lecturer she hopes to see the students enjoy their profession in the future. She spoke on the freedom of the students as different from the freedom experienced at home. At the university, they will have the freedom of speech and time. While they enjoy this freedom she made them realize that the freedom in the university goes with a corresponding responsibility, role and accountability. She encouraged the matriculants to use their freedom rightly, protecting their rights and privileges and not to tamper with freedom of others. As they exercise their freedom, Dr. Woods admonished them to control their thought in all that they do with the right reason. Finally, Dr. Woods encouraged the matriculating students to strive for excellence in their intellectual, moral and academic pursuits while in the university.

After the lecture, the matriculating students took their oath and this was led by the registrar, Rev. Fr. Kenneth Nkadi, OP.

The ceremony came to an end with a closing prayer led by Rev. Fr. Nicholas Okeke, OP. The Vice-Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Akinwale, OP then declared the ceremony closed at 12:20pm
