Pro-Chancellor Mr. Peter Obi Graces 1st & 2nd Convocation Ceremony

Pro-Chancellor of the Dominican University, Mr. Peter Obi in his key note address title: "The Time is Now and the Future is Here, challenged the graduands on leadership skills, urging them to take cue from world icons like Mark Zuckerberk, and Martin Cooper who changed the narrative of the world through their creative works of facebook and mobile phone respectively. "They started with their ingenuity, creating what the world desperately need. They did not start out looking for money: but today money comes to them effortlessly." Mr. Obl therefore advice the youth to seek first creativity and invention to put a breath of fresh air in the world; then, money and other things will follow.

Harping on the fact that the youths constitute the largest segment of Nigeria's population, he advised them to crave for holistic education that informs the mind, equips the hand, and enriches the heart to navigate their promising future. He also used the opportunity to commend the unrelented commitment of the Governing Council of Dominican University whose quality of education he described to be rich in technology, humanitarian and managerial education. This he said is in line with the vision and mission of the school which is to create the future in our youths. As a parting gift to the graduands, Obi took time to take photograph with each of them as a memorial symbol of love and support.

The Guest Lecturer of the convocation ceremony, Peter Amangbo focused his address on the imperative roles education plays in the development of human capital. Amangbo who is the Chairman, Globus Bank Limited urged the graduands and the youths in general to let their education counts. In his address themed "Let Your Education Counts," he taught that "education is the driver of human capital development which consist of the knowledge, skills and health that people invest in and accumulate throughout their lives, enabling them to realize their potential in a society." He hyped on the fact that human capital development is essential for the development and growth of the society. He advised that if Nigeria must come out of its dungeon, education as a vehicle to develop the human capital must be given it rightful place so that every sector of our country can grow. The Chancellor of the school, Very Rev. Fr. Modestus Ngwu, OP in his address, was highly elated at the event describing it as an unprecedented success. He thanked members of the BoT for their commitment to the success of the university. While chronicling the secret of the success story of the 800 years existence of Dominican Order, he challenged the graduands to be well informed that graduation is just the beginning. He urged them to aspire to greatness for God and mankind. "In pursuing your dreams, always remember that there are inexorable ingredients necessary for the realization of your dreams." These ingredients he urged them to build on include: sacrifice, hard and smart work, dedication, persistence, constituency, taking reasonable risk, accountable, right decisions, and choices.
In all a total of 96 students graduated from the various programmes of the university. The summary of graduands for the 2020/2021 academic session: 6 first class: 22 second class upper division; 19 second class lower division. And for the 2021/2022 academic session: 7 first class; 32 second class upper division; 9 second class lower division; and 1 third class.
