ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Objective of the Programme:




The main objectives of the degree programme in Economics are as follows:

  • Provide trainings on principles of economics that will enable students to compete adequately with their counterparts from other universities in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.
  • Develop students' economic skills and techniques required to solve Nigeria's economic challenges.
  • Stimulate the latent entrepreneurial talents in the students and equip them with the necessary analytical tools and skills that can transform them to successful entrepreneurs.
  • Equip students with appropriate tools of analysis capable of making effective economic policies to tackle economic challenges in Nigeia and the world at large.
  • Develop students' analytical skills to understand real world situation.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Duration

Dominican University offers B.Sc (Hons) in Economics in four years, or three years in the case of direct entry. However, the maximum duration for UTME candidates is 6 years (12 semesters), and 4.5 (9 semesters) years for direct entry candidates.

Four-Year Degree Programme in Economics (UTME)

  1. Candidates must have obtained credit passes in five subjects at not more than two sittings at 'O' Level/Senior Secondary Certificate (WAEC, NECO, etc.) Examinations. The credits must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
  2. Candidates must take the following subject level; at the UTME: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other Arts or Social Sciences subjects.

Three-Year Degree Programme in Economics (Direct Entry)

To be considered for admission into the 3-year degree programme, candidates must have passed, at credit level,five subjects including English Language, Economics and Mathematics at the Senior Secondary School Certificates/GCE Ordinary Level or its equivalent; as well as Economics and at least one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemisty, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History or Government at the G.C.E, Advanced level.

Inter-university Transfer

Students transferring to Economics Department from Economics Department of any recognized and accredited university will be expected to be on a CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5-point scale. Students interested in transferring to Dominican University cannot be allowed beyond 300 level.
