Philosophy:

Accounting Programme aligns with the philosophy of the University which is based on the principle that human and social developments are rooted in the development of the mind, and of morals as well. The general philosophy of undergraduate training in the accounting programme is to provide the students with quality education and training that will develop the mind impart both theoretical and practical knowledge on the individual student, develop self-confidence, and help to be innovative and self-reliant in the field of accounting.

Objectives

The major objectives of a Bachelor's degree programme in Accounting are to:
  1. To produce high level accounting personnel that can contribute to the development of accounting practice through researches and publications.
  2. Provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems relating to accounting in the management of industrial,commercial, public and other human organizations;
  3. Equip students with knowledge and skills of decision making; especially the analytical skills needed for recognizing, defining and solving problems;
  4. Develop in students, leadership and interpersonal reations skills in accounting/management.
  5. Provide training aimed at improving and upgrading the existing and potential manpower needed for national development.

Career Opportunities

The career opportunities available for Accounting graduates is that they can work within almost any industry you can imagine. They can work as Policy Accountants, Directors, Budget Analysts, Finance Managers, Chief Financial Officers, Lecturers, Independent Auditors, Certified Internal Auditors, Public Sector Accountants, Forensic Accountants, etc.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS


  1. UTME:
    1. Candidates seeking admission to the four-year degree program must have obtained credit passes in five subjects at not more than two sittings at 'O'Level/Senior Certificate (WAEC,NECO) Examinations. The credit must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
    2. Candidates must take at the UTME English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other Arts or Social Sciences subjects .

  2. Direct Entry:
    In addition to the ordinary level requirements above, candidates for admission should possess:
    1. GCE A/Level passes in mathematics and at least one of the following subjects: Economics, Government, Commerce and Accounting.
    2. Eqivalently, candidate must posses credit level pass in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Merit Pass in National Certificate in Education (NCE) in relevant discipline form a recognized tertiary institution.
    3. candidate with a good first degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in any management course will be considered
  3. Inter-university Transfer
    1. Students transferring to Accounting Department from Accounting Department or any related discipline of any recognized and accredited University will be expected to be on a CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5-point scale.
    2. Such students cannot be accommodated beyond year III (300 level).

  4. Program Duration:
    This programme offers a four (4) year study for candidates admitted through the UTME and a three (3) year study for candidates admitted through Direct Entry leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) in Accounting.
