ABUSE OF POWER: CLERICAL SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINORS (A Five-Day Workshop for Priests) November 11-15, 2019
2019, Sep 25

ABUSE OF POWER: CLERICAL SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINORS (A Five-Day Workshop for Priests) November 11-15, 2019.

The Order of Preachers (Province of Saint Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana) in collaboration with Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) and the Center for Child Protection (CCP), Rome invites Catholic priests in the Ecclesiastical Province of Ibadan to a five-day workshop focused on addressing issues concerning abuse of power, especially sexual abuse of minors in the church.

The workshop will be facilitated by a team of resource persons from the Center for Child Protection (CCP), Rome led by Sr Karolin Kuhn. This initiative enjoys the support and sponsorship of the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) represented by Kinga Poschinger. Local perspectives on the issues therein will be brought in by Rev. Sr (Dr) Leonie Okaraga, HHCJ; Rev. Fr George Ehusani, Executive Director of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Abuja; and the Vice-Chancellor of the Dominican University, Rev. Prof. Anthony Akinwale, OP.

Participation at this workshop is open to Catholic priests only. Particularly, this workshop would be of immense help to priests working in formation houses. This would provide a forum for resource persons to share their experiences with priest-formators tasked with the mission of accompanying future priests on the path towards emotional maturity.

Duration:   Workshop commences Monday, November 11, 2019 and ends Friday, November 15, 2019.

Venue:      Tom and Carolyn Walker Hall, Dominican University, Samonda Campus, Ibadan

Time:        9.00am daily.

Catholic priests who wish to participate in this workshop are expected to indicate their interest by a simple online registration process. Registration is free.

However, upon confirmation of registration for participation, each participant will be required to pay a token of ten thousand (10,000) only. This participation fee has been heavily subsidized by Aid to the Church in Need. It entitles participants to customized writing materials, daily lunch, tea break refreshments and dinner for the duration of the workshop.

Participants who need an accommodation are required to indicate it. Options and costs for accommodation will be sent to such participants.
