Welcome Address by the HOD

I am elated to congratulate and welcome you to the Department of Accountancy & Business Administration at Dominican University Ibadan, Nigeria. The department consists of two different programs: Accounting and Business Administration. We conduct research and teach courses in General Business/Management, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Small Business Management, Business Communications, Finance, International Business & Development, Human Resource Management, Taxation & Tax Management, Principles of Accounting and Corporate Financial Reporting & Ethics.

Our lecturers focus on producing new knowledge, skills and equipping students to lead in a rapidly changing business environment. Courses are taught by Lecturers from around the world bringing wealth of experiences and diverse perceptions. The department endeavors to establish an enabling academic environment by ensuring that the academic environment remains stimulating and inspiring and that students and staff derive utmost satisfaction from studying and working in our department.

The broad philosophy of the department is to introduce students to the world of business and provide students with the knowledge of systematically recording, measuring and communicating financial and non-financial information that will inform them, about the capital market and expedite rational financial, economic and policy decisions. Additionally, to produce graduates in accountancy and business administration who are nationally relevant and internationally recognizable.

In order to achieve the objectives and live the philosophy, the department is involved in research, teaching and provision of services to the community. The curriculum has been developed to incorporate all the core courses which are basic to the accounting and business administration profession as well as all those courses which are relevant to the practice of accountancy and management in Nigeria and abroad.

History

The history of this great Department can be traced to the history of the University itself. The Department of Accountancy & Business Administration is under the Faculty of Humanities, Social & Management Sciences of the Dominican University, Ibadan, Nigeria. The Department was established in the year 2017 as one of the pioneer academic departments in the Faculty. The Department started with Dr. Adelekan Saidi Adedeji as pioneer Head of Department. The Department currently runs two (2) programs, viz: B.Sc. Accounting and B.Sc. Business Administration. It aims at awarding the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy & Business Administration.

The Department has fulltime and visiting academic staff who engage in teaching and research in a wide variety of areas, covering Management, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Small Business Management, Business Communications, Accounting, Taxation & Tax Management, Principles of Accounting, Corporate Financial Reporting & Ethics, Quantitative Techniques and Treasury & Cash Management.

The Department envisages establishing additional courses in the nearest future, such as, B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, Master’s of Business Administration with specializations in Marketing, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship and Finance, M.Sc. Management, M.Sc. Accounting, PhD Business Management and PhD Business Accounting.

We hope that the additional proposed programs will provide the University and its immediate community with the solution to their leadership and management related challenges and create ethically minded managers, accountants and scholars that would steer our business future to the shore of progress and prosperity.

HOD’s Profile

DR. OYEKUNBI OLUBUKOLA DELE-OLADEJO is an accountant and a lecturer in the Department of Management Studies (accounting program), Dominican University Samonda Ibadan . She has served as member of the Local Organizing Commttee, International Conference , Member Accreditation Committee, and presently in the Editorial board member of DUJMSS Vol 1& 2 of the of the Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences.  

She holds Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting from Leads City University, Toll gate Ibadan. Before joining the academic cadre, she had worked with the Oyo state Universal Basic Education from accounting officer to the post of an Auditor in Higher Accounting Executives cadre and spent up to 22 years in the establishment.
Dr  Oyekunbi Dele-Oladejo started her education at University of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti state with B.Sc in Accounting, and M.Sc in Accounting from Leads City University. She belongs to the following Professional Institutes such as Certified Member, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN ), Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria, Member Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
Dr  Oyekunbi has attended conferences both locally and internationally. She has published several papers to her credit in both local and international reputable journals. Her area of interest includes Management Accounting, Auditing and Investigation and Forensic.

Academic Programme

Business Administration Program

Philosophy

The department of Business Administration is created to introduce students to the world of business, relating business issues and management in tackling challenges of national development and expediting academic and professional standards postulated for membership of relevant Professional bodies such as; Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered).

Objectives

The objectives of this program are:

  1. To prepare students with an in-depth knowledge of the responsibilities usually exercised within the business functions.
  2. To equip the students with a general knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of     management.
  3. To expose the students to the awareness of the fundamental roles played by business organizations in national development.
  4. To develop a knowledge and understanding of the concepts, problems and practices of management.
  5. To equip students with leadership and interpersonal relations skills in management.
  6. To provide high educational quality that will allow students to apply the scientific skills and knowledge of business administration in an ever-changing work environment.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates of this programme can expediently secure employment in the Private and Private Organizations, Audit Firms, Consultancy Firms, Non-Governmental Organizations, Armed Forces, Academics and Research Institutions.

Admission Requirements:

  1. UTME
  2. Candidates seeking admission to the four-year Degree program should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education or their equivalents with at least five credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics and Economics and pass at the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the cut-off points as may be determined by the University from time to time.
  3. Candidates are expected to take English Language, Economics and two other subjects at the UTME.
  4. Direct Entry:

In addition to the ordinary level requirements above, candidates for admission should possess Ordinary National Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division in relevant programmes.

iii. Programme Duration:

This programme offers a four (4) year study for candidates admitted through the UTME and a three (3) year study for candidates admitted through Direct Entry leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) in Business Administration.

Accounting Program

Philosophy

The department of Accounting is created to provide students with the knowledge of systematic recording, measuring and communication of financial and non-financial information that will inform them about the capital market and expedite rational financial, economic and policy decisions.

Objectives

The objectives of this program are:

  1. To produce graduates with ability and capacity of using the modern Accounting and Management techniques.
  2. To equip students with knowledge and understanding of evaluating management control systems and in giving decision support for cost management and other managerial decisions.
  3. To produce graduates that can contribute to the development of accounting practice through publications and researches.
  4. To produce graduates with leadership and interpersonal relations skills in accounting.

Career Opportunities

The career opportunities available for Accounting graduates is that they can work within almost any industry you can imagine. They can work as Policy Accountants, Directors, Budget Analysts, Finance Managers, Chief Financial Officers, Lecturers, Independent Auditors, Certified Internal Auditors, Public Sector Accountants, Forensic Accountants, etc.

Admission Requirements

(i) UTME:

  1. Candidates seeking admission to the four-year degree program should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate in Education or its equivalents with at least five credit passes at not more than two sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects from the following: Commerce, Government, Geography, Account and Book-keeping at not more than two sittings.
  2. Candidates are expected to take English Language, Economics and two other subjects at the UTME.

(ii) Direct Entry:

In addition to the ordinary level requirements above, candidates for admission should possess:

  1. Three A’ Level passes in the relevant commercial courses acceptable to the University.
  2. Ordinary National Diploma Lower Credit in relevant courses including Accounting, Finance, Banking, Insurance and other Financial Studies courses.
  3. National Certificate of Education, Merit in relevant courses including Accounting and Finance.

(iii) Program Duration:

This programme offers a four (4) year study for candidates admitted through the UTME and a three (3) year study for candidates admitted through Direct Entry leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) in Accounting.
