Welcome to a new academic session
2018, Oct 03

To mark the resumption of academic activities for the 2018/2019 academic session at the Dominican University Ibadan, an Inaugural Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated in the Chapel by the Chancellor of the University, ably represented by his Vicar, Very Rev. Fr Felix Onemeghie, OP.

In attendance at this opening event held on October 2, 2018 were both staff and students of the University as well as invited guests. In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Rev. Prof. Anthony Akinwale, OP assured both students and staff of the commitment of the University to providing qualitative learning experiences and conducive work environment. The Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Dominican University affirmed that the University will continually strive to remain an institution that acknowledges and celebrates Nigeria's strength in ethnic diversity as well as the enriching support of international collaboration.

The opening lecture for the academic session was delivered by Chief Anthony Idigbe, SAN at the Tom and Carolyn Walker Hall of the University.  In a lecture titled, "Rethinking Education and National Development in Nigeria," the guest speaker, a thorough-bred legal practitioner, critically analyzed the current situation of university education in Nigeria. University education in Nigeria will contribute more positively to national development when, not only access to university education is provided by licensing more universities, but also by institutionalizing adequate funding systems, development-oriented curricula, and the forms of entrepreneurial culture draw out the hidden potentials in students.

Dominican University remains vision-driven towards creating a center of excellence for quality technological, humanitarian and managerial education of its products. Its mission is to assist Nigeria to achieve the greatness its potentials warrant.
